“TALKA” … is the Latvian word for ‘work party’

— when the day’s work is over, the farmer’s wife provides a grand meal for these friends,-Such an occasion is described by the Latvians as a “Talka. … Sometimes five or six farms will be visited before the party returns home.” This coming April 30th we will be hosting our annual TALKA, with 30+ friends coming to help us paint, plant, repair, and open up our dear Camp Wandawega for another season. for the love of the CHALKBOARD….

at summercamp, you will find no shortage of these.slates from the turn of the century, easels from retail stores from the 20’s,even the tiny garden variety used to mark herbs. I use them for literally everything from way-finding to menu boards.(as seen here for a past halloween party) but my typography is sorely lacking compared to this brooklyn artist. My friend william sent us her link and we are IN LOVE! BE STILL MY HEART.

BABY SHOWER or… another reason to drink at 1pm…

a teeny impromptu babette shower hosted by the fabulous william boys.aka: guncles. drunkles. fairy godparents…(we love you guys!) yes, this is nearly 4months ago. but pink never goes out of style.highlights:vintage champagne glasses of chocolates, 3 kinds of champagne cocktails @ a champagne tasting bar. busbybakes take-home cookies on a homemade 3-tier cake stand.

Making the perfect s’more, Camp Wandawega style

1. whip up a big ole’ campfire. 2. snap a graham cracker i half, and add a chunk of a hershey bar. 3. Stick a marshmallow on a stick (we like to use a long green tree branch with a wittled tip) 4. Hold it over the hottest part of the fire you can find. 5. turn turn turn. (or, if you’re adventurous, let it catch on fire & blow it out) 6. shove that lovely mess in-between the cracker + mallow. 7. sandwich it all together. 8. squeeeeeze the grahams together, pull out the stick. 9. How to make an old school “shot-ski”

A few years ago, a bunch of friends and i did shot-skis at an old lodge-themed bar in northern Michigan, and I’ve been wanting to make one ever since. Shown here are: me, David, our neighbors and our homemade shot-ski. Here’s how you make one: 1. Lay ski down and apply space out shot glasses equally along the whole ski, once you have decided where you would like to glue them make a small mark for reference. 2. Get glue out and apply to bottom of shot glasses individually, place and hold firmly where you marked on the ski. 3….
