yup.that’s her.“Hanna Suzanna Surratt”she lived in a log cabin in “Surratt Holler” (just 10 min south of my hometown- Beardstown, Illinois). yes, I said ‘holler’. not even ‘hollow’ – not that I know what a hollow even would be. they lived off the land in the most honest way, making everything from their own homes to maple syrup. SHE was 91 years old. they were high school sweethearts…

the tiny cottage at the end of the lane was having an estate sale.everything must go.she had died.and he died the year before at the ripe old age of 92. trudging through the snow, we made our way to the teeny 4 room cottage. it was packed to the gills with their lives – pictures, furniture, dishes.in the corner of a heaping room was a little envelope of booklets. they were dance cards- dating back to their teenage years.what we found most remarkable was that each had only one dance recorded. there were rows of lines for other partners, but…

his name is DENNIS HALLIMAN– he was a 1950’s lifestyle photographer.I’ve not actually met him…. if hes still alive, hes like 80+. he was Cypress Gardens’ chief photographer back in the day- his work featuring 40′ and 50’s pin up are still super hot. i stumbled on him while surfing and am now obsessed with his work. stay tuned for more Dennis magic. PROJECT: 10,000 buttons on a wall

we needed a facelift at ogilvy, so i called in anders nilsen (the artist who did an button installation @ lula cafe in logan square) i asked him if he could take one of his 500 count button count and do it on a bigger scale. 20 feet, 10,000 buttons. we collaborated to come up with the installation you see here- featuring the segments of Ogilvy’s work dating back to the 1950’s, and mixing in pop culture spanning the last several decades. the buttons are in multiple sizes, and installed to undulate off the wall at different depths. he has…
