amazingness… and secret squirrel!

we love meeting new folks. this weekend, a photographer came with his family to camp wandawega to shoot a story for (a magazine that we love, but i think we hafta’ keep as a surprise until it comes out) so… after a few days running around camp in the rain – we quickly learned that we share a lot of common interests with our new friend matt. including all things lodge, camp, unique and american. so yesterday while he was out and about with the fam,  he scouted this amazing piece at a chicago store. Nuptials, summercamp style.

Last week couple arrived at their cabin to check in….  the boyfriend asked our friend Bill ‘what is the most beautiful part of the property?’ He pointed them towards that hilltop, where the boyscout tent cabins are grouped. (a serene little perch overlooking the lake) The guest thanked Bill and led his girlfriend up to that spot. and then got down on one knee to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. my niece, the VARGAS girl.

how cute is she?! how the hell did this happen, anyway? yesterday she was knee high to a grasshopper. gorging on oreos and spinning circles in my sisters living room until she puked. and now, well– shes a teenager and (almost) grown up. she literally just walked out of the cabin wearing this vintage swimsuit. throw a hat & shoes on her and all of a sudden its 1955 and shes a postcard gal.

FAMILY HEIRLOOMS

everyone forgets about things like this. they get locked away, forgotten, or more often than not- tossed out altogether. so when i find family heirloom recipes books, i try to save them at all costs. while cleaning out my late grandmother’s house, we found a treasure trove of old family photos, recipes, and journals like these.  always with portable scanner on hand, i got some great archival copies. also pictured are my aunt and uncle. (love these photos, they are so handsome!)
